Airbox Modifications

Modifications

Modify the Mpi (Multi point fuel injection) airbox as described below should give your Mini a 3hp gain over the standard airbox.

Tools required:

* Philips screw driver
* Stanley knife
* Mini hack saw

Airbox removal

* Remove the 3 screw head bolts holding the airbox to the throttle body
* Remove the air box
* Undo the 4 clips and separate the airbox halves
* Remove the air filter element
* Remove the air inlet extension

Base Modifications

* Using the Stanley knife cut the lip that surrounds the throttle body port down until its flush with the base
* Remove the 3 bolt posts
* Remove excess plastic from the air inlet port
* Trim the plastic lip the runs around inner edge of the air filter down until its the same height as the seal on the air filter

Lid Modifications

* Cut the 3 bolt turrets down as shown as shown.
* Trim the plastic lip the runs around inner edge of the air filter down until its the same height as the seal on the air filter

Fitting is the reverse of removal except don't re-fit the air inlet extension.

Further modifications

Bolt improvements:

If you want to take these modifications one stage further you can remove the turrets in the lid completely. Seal the holes left in the lid and use dome headed bolts to hold the base to the throttle body.

Ram pipe:

There is a stepped join between the throttle body inlet and the airbox outlet. Make an liner that fits inside the airbox outlet that smoothes this transition and extends upwards into a short ram pipe. A flow bench would really be needed to develop this successfully.

Cold air intake:

This cold air intake is made from drain piping with a open scoop behind the grill

CAUTION! - Do these modifications at your own risk. I can not be held responsible for any damage you do to your vehicle or yourself. If in doubt get adult supervision.
